How to Get Back on Track with Your Life Goals and Stay There

So, with all the inevitabilities of life, how do you get on track (or stay on track) with your goals?

This is one of the most frequent questions I receive when I work with clients on issues related to work-life balance and digital distraction.

It starts with recognizing that life happens in waves. That is, we have our high points and low points or times when we think we're moving backward or not at all.

But when you're anchored in your WHY, your life's purpose, your life's vision, you have the momentum you need to keep pushing even when things get tough. You are able to move forward with perspective and know that although you may not be where you want to be, you can celebrate your progress where you arehowever small it may seem. And you remember that it's all about the journey, not the destination.

When you get off track, remember there's no magic formula for long-lasting success, change, or transformation. We don't just set goals, walk away, and hope things work out.

The magic is in repeating the cycle of reminding yourself why you are doing something, setting goals that align with your WHY, prioritizing those goals, and taking consistent right action to reach your goals.

  1. When you get off track or get discouraged, remember your WHY. Why you are doing something matters more than how you do it or even what you do.

  2. When you get stuck or are unsure what's the next best step, identify the next goal you need to reach in order to move closer to realizing your life vision or living in full alignment with your WHY.

  3. Then, as Gary Keller and Jay Papasan suggest in their book The ONE Thing: The Surprisingly Simple Truth Behind Extraordinary Results, do the ONE thing that will create a domino effect and make everything else on your to-do list easier to do or no longer necessary.

  4. Then do the next ONE thing.

  5. Rinse and repeat.

That's the process. It works. But only if you work it.

So, how are you doing with staying on track? What's your biggest challenge? Share your thoughts by leaving a comment below or sending me a message.

Looking forward to connecting!
